David Wilmot wants a chance to compete. The CEO and chairman of Woodbine Entertainment Group, the large Canadian-based company which provides horse racing for Canadian bettors and online casino fans, wants a chance to go against offshore online casino gaming companies. But first he wants a level playing field which he feels can be provided by the government of Ontario. He wants the officials to reverse the ban on online casinos gaming advertising.

'Either throw the online gambling field wide open for the domestic gambling industry to participate or enact legislation that will run the foreign-based World Wide Web gambling operations right off the track. But if we tried to open up a sports book, or online casino or poker room, the police would be on our doorstep the next day. We have laws, but they are not being enforced. So, either you change them or you allow us to compete,' Wilmot told the government. Proposed legislation before the Ontario legislature would ban advertising for online casino gaming operations, paralyzing such businesses in the jurisdiction.

The advertising ban could also put a financial cavity in businesses that sell advertising space for the online casino sites. These would include media outlets and four Canadian Football League clubs - Hamilton, Toronto, Edmonton, and Calgary - which have an agreement for on-field advertising of online casino sites. The CFL as a league ended its agreement with a leading online casino sports book and replaced it with an agreement for a non-betting site.
